The chart of the week looks at the returns of the S&P 500 during recessions going back to 1946. The median drop for the index over this time was about 24%, very close to where the S&P 500 ended recently from its peak in January. While we are not in a recession, the likelihood of the US economy entering one has gone up recently with the recent inflation reading and the subsequent action of the Federal Reserve.
